As a kid, I was fascinated by the bright flashes of lightning. Mom used to tell me that lightning strikes and thunder meant that the sinners were being punished by angels. I really believed it and actually counted how many sinners got punished. Growing up, i was always in awe every time i looked at the beautiful lightning photos taken by professional photographers.

I got my chance one night, but my photos did not turn out the way i wanted them to. It was a dark, cloudy, windy and cold August night (surprising that it was smack dab in the middle of a Californian summer). The thunder roll was prominent and occasionally cracking loud. I saw it as an opportunity for me to shoot some pictures of the lightning arcs and got out with my tripod.

These photos were taken with my tiny Canon Powershot S230 point and shoot camera. It does not let me control aperture, so this is all i could get.
